Membership: Signing up and benefits

Why do I need to apply for membership?

We have learned that the best experience for Members is to have REC understand what you want out of your membership & align on expectations before you sign up. We want to ensure you know how REC works and that REC is right for you.

Is REC just for musicians?

No. While REC comes from a background in working mainly with musicians, REC has studios to acommodate all types of creators. Designers, Dancers, Videographers, Photographers, Podcastors, Talent Managers and more. Check out the studios and equipment we have available in Philly and Miami.

Can anyone become a REC member?

REC is open for all creatives that are over the age of 16 who are ready to take the next step in their creative journey. Members who are 16 or 17 must sign-up with an adult over the age of 25. Visit recphilly.com/apply to learn more about the membership.

Can I use REC’s space as a non-member?

What is the main difference between the Membership tiers?

Credits are the main difference. You get more credits for each membership level to use for private studio booking.

Can my band (or brand) sign up with one membership?

All memberships are for individuals only. We want to empower each individual as their own creative entrepreneur – ensuring they are receiving all of the benefits REC has to offer.

Can I sign up for a membership without taking a tour?

We recommend taking a tour of REC and speaking with a REC Staff Member before signing up — If you are 100% ready to sign up, make sure to submit and Application and contact Sly from the Talent team via email – sly@recphilly.com

How do I cancel my membership?

Email members@RECphilly.com for next steps.

Am I charged automatically for my membership?

Yes, all Members are charged annually and automatically with the card they put on file from when they first signed up.

Can I use REC as a business or mailing address?

Unfortunately Members are unable to use REC as a business or mailing address, but we suggest looking into getting a PO Box at the USPS located on 13th St & Market St.

How do I access the app?

Visit app.recphilly.com to access it on your phone or your desktop browser.

What can I do with the app?

Members need the App to create their Profile, Book Private Studios, RSVP for REC Events, and to connect with other Members. They can also access the Jobs & Opportunities Board, explore Partnership Perks, and access the educational curriculum & how-to materials REC offers.

How do I get booked for Agency gigs?

Agency gigs can be found on the Job Board. Members can apply for all Jobs & Opportunities they feel they are eligible for. REC’s Agency & Membership team fitler through applications and will contact you directly if you are being considered for a gig.

Workspace: Hours and amenities

Do I need to book a spot if I want to use the coworking space?

Nope! You’re free to use REC’s coworking space if you’re a member. Coworking is first come, first serve.

How often can I use the workspace as a member?

As long as REC is open and there is no event being hosted in the space. Members can use the workspace as much as they’d like. Thee’s no limits or credits for using the workspace.

What type of amenities do the Workspace offer?

The Workspace provides Wifi, Tables, Chairs, Lounge Furniture, Projector, Community Kitchen (Fridge, Microwave) — Free Redbull, Filtered Water, and Community Printer

Can I still use the Workspace when there is an event in the space? (how to check, regular events)

The Workspace becomes unavailable when an event is happening in this space. If the event is happening after Mall hours (after 7pm), REC will convert the Retail Shop into a small Workspace for Members.

Can I bring guests to REC?

It depends on where you’ll be working. Members can bring Guests to REC when booking a Private Studio. You can bring as many guests to the Private Room as long as it's within capacity. You can also bring 1 guest to use the coworking space with you. You can bring a +1 to some REC programming. However, remember: there are other members using the space. Guests must remain with their host member, using only the designated studio booked

Credits: Using your credits

What is the credit system?

Our private studios rentals are operated by our credit system. These credits can be used to reserve studio time at a designated credit rate per hour for the respective room. Credits can be used (and additional Credits can be purchased) via REC’s new app.

Can members split credits to book a space together?

Only 1 Member can book the space with their credits at a time.

Can I purchase more credits?

Yes. Members can purchase “Credit Packs” for $40, which comes with 4 Credits.

Do my monthly credits carry over to the next month if I don’t use them? (is there an expiration date for credit packs)

No, monthly credits do not carry over. But any credits that are purchased via Credit Packs will carry over.

Can members transfer credtits to other members?

No, not yet.

Booking a private studio

How far in advance can I book a private studio?

Private Rooms can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance.

How long can I book a private studio for?

There is currently no limit for your studio sessions. We recommend sessions be a minimum of 2 hours.

Can I book a private room when there is an event happening?

Yes – as long as the room is available. Check the booking calendar in the REC App for studio availability.

Does booking the private studios come with an engineer, videographer, or any specialists?

No, the studios do not come with an engineer or other specialist (photographer, videographer, etc). If you’d like to book a specialist, head to recphilly.com/specialists for a list of members who have shown competency in their craft. All transactions and conditions that come with it is between you and the Specialist – REC is not involved in the payment of specialists.

How do I book a session in a private room at REC?

You can do all bookings from REC’s app. Open your REC app and click “Book a room.” Select your room, date, and time. Go to the studio at your selected date and time. You’re ready to use the studio!

Events: Attending and renting event spaces

Is it free to attend REC’s events as a member?

Yes! REC Programming is free for Members (and a +1 for selected events).

What is an Open House?

Open House is a monthly event that will include studios open for collaboration, sessions led by REC Specialists, demonstrations of equipment by the Studio Team, food and drinks, headshots, and more!

Are events open to non-members?

Yes, most events are open to non-members.

Can Members throw events in the main space?

Members can learn more about having an event by visiting www.recphilly.com/spacerental. Members can also submit Event ideas via this application. There are no guarantees for Members to host events in the main event space. Typically REC will accept 1-2 events submitted by Members each month.

Can I book the Live Nation stage during the day?

Nope. The Live Nation stage is not available to be booked during the day by members. Please visit recphilly.com/spacerental for more info

Renting equipment

What type of equipment is available at REC?

We have all kind of equipments for all types of creative. See our full equipment list here.

Can I rent equipment and use it outside of REC?

No. All equipments at REC can only be used at REC’s space. If you are interested in using equipment out of REC’s sapce, visit our equipment rental partners for discounts on equipment rentals.

Does it cost money/credits to rent equipment?

It depends on the equipment. Most of the equipment comes complimentary with the membership--but some piecces of equipment do cost additional credits.

How do I rent equipment at REC?

Head over to REC’s Expressway Equipment Center to check out equipment.

Am I allowed to use/rent all the equipment at REC?

Members are eligible to use most equipment at REC. Some of REC’s equipment require certifications to use (specifically studio A). Certifications come from training sessions at REC.

Can someone teach me how to use the equipment?

REC Staff will always help Members get set up in the studios, but Members are expected to lead their sessions and use of equipment. If you need help operating the equipment. You can also hire a specialist from our community to help you use the equipment. Visit our specialist page to learn more.
